WHY AGAWAM RESIDENTS CHOOSE US
A studio that meets you where you are
Genuinely
beginner-friendly
We don't just say "all levels welcome" we mean it. Our instructors know how to teach beginners without making them feel like beginners. You'll leave your first class with something you made.
Community over competition
Agawam folks who come here keep coming back. Not just for the clay, but for the people. The studio has a working energy to it. Everyone's in their own thing, but nobody's a stranger for long.
Flexible
scheduling
Open Tuesday through Sunday, with classes in the evenings and weekends.
Commuting from Agawam or Feeding Hills? We've got options that fit.
“Creativity is a practice — not a performance.”
OUR OFFERINGS
Pottery classes for every kind of person
Try the Pottery Wheel
The classic intro. You'll learn the basics of centering, opening, and pulling a wall — and you'll actually get to keep what you make. No experience required. Slightly messy. Highly recommended.
Monthly Classes
Ready to go deeper? Our multi-week classes run in monthly sessions and are the best way to actually build a skill. You'll have time to practice, make mistakes, and get better. Filling Hills commuters: these are worth the drive.
Handbuilding Try It
No wheel? No problem. Handbuilding — pinch pots, coil work, slab construction — has been around longer than the wheel, and it's just as satisfying. Great for people who like more control over the process.
Couples Classes
Equal parts creative and chaotic. You and a partner (romantic, platonic, whoever) take on the wheel together. It's a real date night — and a surprisingly honest look at how you two communicate. Most people laugh a lot.
ABOUT THE STUDIO
A real working studio,
close to home
Grit & Grog Clay Co. is a community pottery studio in Western Massachusetts. Just a short drive from Agawam and the broader Connecticut River Valley. We built this place for people who want to actually make things, not just take a one-time class and forget about it.
We have wheels, kilns, and handbuilding tables. We have instructors who genuinely love teaching. We have an open studio membership for when you want to come in and just work. And we have a studio culture where imperfection is, frankly, the whole point.
If you're coming from Agawam or Feeding Hills, you'll find parking, friendly faces, and probably someone who's been coming here for longer than they planned.

Something different
to do in the
Valley
Whether you've just wrapped a summer day at Six Flags with the kids, finished a walk on the Connecticut River trail, or you're just looking for something creative to do in Agawam that isn't the same old routine — we've got a class for that.
Agawam is a town that values community and a certain groundedness. Our studio shares that energy. We're not precious about pottery. It's clay. It's tactile. It's something you can do with your hands after a long week of sitting at a screen — and it's genuinely good for you in ways that are hard to explain until you've tried it.
The Metacomet Trail runs right through Agawam's western ridgelines. The Connecticut River is practically your backyard. And now you've got a pottery studio close enough to become part of your regular routine.
Come give it a try.
